Concert by Clare
College Choir of
Cambridge
University, England
The Clare College
Choir of Cambridge
University, England,
will give a concert
at our church at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 22, in the
sanctuary. This will
mark the third time
the Clare Choir has
performed at Baker
Memorial Church.
This concert is very
special indeed as it
will mark the final
appearance of the
choir under the
direction of Tim
Brown, who has been
the director for 33
years. Tim mentioned
to me more than two
years ago when he
decided to retire
that a concert at
Baker Memorial
Church would be a
highlight of his
final year as
director. The choir
and Tim have many
fond memories of
performances in our
church sanctuary. On
Tim’s last visit, he
worked with our
Chancel Choir and
conducted us in
worship.
The Clare Choir is a
highly acclaimed
choir and is
considered to be one
of the finest in
Europe. The concert
will be all sacred
music and will
include Herbert
Howells Magnificat
(St. Paul’s), Kyrie
from the Mass in G
minor by Vaughan
Williams, Ave Verum
by William Byrd,
Rise up, my love by
Healy Willan, Beati
quorum via by
Charles Stanford,
Panis Angelicus by
Cesar Franck,
Cantique de Jean
Racine by Gabriel
Faure, and others.
Tickets cost $12 and
will be available
beginning Aug. 15.
They will be sold
between worship
services, and you
may also call the
church office at
(630) 584-6680 for
tickets and
information.
For more on the
choir, visit the Web
site at
http://www.clare.cam.ac.uk/life/choir/index.html
In addition, the
church will need to
provide housing for
the 32 singers the
evening of Sept. 22.
Sixteen families
should be adequate.
Please let me know
if you are willing
to help out. This is
a fabulous
opportunity for our
congregation and
community to hear
world-class choral
music from England.
Please pass the word
to friends and
family. — Jeff Hunt

Upcoming Events
The Missions and Outreach Ministry is
looking ahead to a fun-filled calendar of events. Although dates are not final,
please keep the following activities in mind and look for more information in
the Carillon and Sunday bulletin as each event approaches:
- October 2010 – Missions Ministry will serve up yet
another special Wednesday Night Supper to raise awareness and funds for the
church’s many mission projects.
Late October, early November – We again
will schedule an evening to help at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. This
St. Charles-based organization does an amazing job collecting, sorting, and
distributing much-needed food and other donated products from food
manufacturers, grocers and private donors for use at pantries, shelters and
other agencies that serve children, families, and seniors.
- December 2010 – Many opportunities will arise
during the holidays to continue the Baker tradition of making Christmas
special for those in need. Details will follow as Christmas draws near.
- January 2011 – We will collect books and other
media for the annual book sale.
- Feb. 5, 2011 – An abundance of books will be
available with something to suit every interest. Be ready to browse because
this is quite an event for book lovers.
- March-April 2011 – Because many hands make light
work, we will help wherever we can with the spring rummage sale.

One Day Adult Mission Trip
Our adult mission group, Vim & Vigor, will travel
Friday, Oct. 22, to Chatham, Ill., near Springfield to the Midwest
Mission Distribution Center. Hundreds of volunteers each year encounter
the joy of a hands on mission experience as they give their time, work
and enthusiasm at this facility. This ongoing mission helps those in
need throughout the Midwest, nation and world.
Mission work at the center comes in many forms. You might work in the
Center of the Warehouse receiving, sorting, packing, and shipping
disaster response relief items; sewing or doing paperwork. You might
work on campus, doing general maintenance and ground work. There is
something for EVERY adult!
An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, in
Baker Hall. However, if you cannot make this meeting and you are
interested in joining this mission, you may call Jan McPeak at the
church office at (630) 584-6680. |

The Farmers Market
Fruits,
veggies, plants & other goodies!
The Farmers Market
at Baker Memorial Church is 7 a.m.-1 p.m.
every Friday, along 4th Avenue, June 4
through the end of October. Rob Murphy, our
fearless coordinator, could use some
intrepid volunteers to help with early
morning set-up and take-down after the
market closes as 1 p.m. See Rob at church on
Sundays for details. |
