Sunday Morning FAQs

Worshipers gather in our Sanctuary.

Here is some information on worship and life at Baker Memorial UMC:

  • Where do I park?
There’s parking along the building and in nearby lots on the west side of the church.
  • Where do I go?
    • Our Sanctuary is accessed via Fourth Avenue and Cedar Avenue. Feel free to sit where you like.
    • An elevator is available on the Cedar Avenue level for those who enter at that door and need that accessibility. The Fourth Avenue entrance includes a ramp.
    • Washrooms are located on both the Cedar Avenue level and the lower level.
    • Sunday School classes are held on the lower level.
  • What is our worship music like?
    Music
is an important part of our worship services, with anthems from the great tradition of sacred choral music, as well as music performed by one of several choirs and ensembles. All music is meant to enhance to musical experience in worship. Preludes, postludes and offertories typically are taken from the great wealth of organ literature from all periods of music.
  • What should I wear?
Don’t worry about a dress code or what to wear. We focus more on the message of God and we want you to be comfortable as you worship God, converse with Him and hear His message. Our parishioners typically are attired in a wide variety of attire, from that on the more casual side of the aisle to the traditional “Sunday Best.” Clothing selection is individual!
  • Will I be called on or singled out for attention?
We hope those sitting nearby are warm and welcoming, but you will not be singled out from the pulpit, nor made to say anything or stand up to be recognized.
  • What about when the offering basket is passed?
Do not feel obligated to put anything in our offering baskets. Our members and regular attendees are expected to support our church’s financial needs.
  • Will there be Communion?
Communion is offered weekly at the 10:30 Service, and on the first Sunday of every month at our 9 o’clock Service. During the summer, when we have only the 9 a.m. service, Holy Communion is part of Worship on the first Sunday of the month and is served following Worship on all other Sundays.
  • What about my children?
We have a nursery for children up to age 3, Sunday School during the 9 a.m. service and a Time for Children during the 10:30 a.m. service. During the summer, when we have only one service, Time for Children is included every week. See the Children’s Ministry page for more information.
  • Is there an opportunity to meet and mingle with others?

    Parishioners enjoy Fellowship Hour.

There certainly is! Each week one of our ministries or committees hosts Fellowship Hour, in Baker Hall. There are sweet treats to enjoy, as well as coffee, tea and juice, and a chance to talk with fellow parishioners. Various groups and ministries also may have tables set up, providing information on upcoming events such as a mission trip, Circle event, Youth outing or all-church activity. Fellowship is held at 10 a.m., so those attending either service can attend. It’s a fundamental part of Sunday mornings at Baker Memorial UMC.
